The Low Carbon Society: Challenges and Opportunities (Part 1)
Professor Andrew Sentence ◦ Professor of Sustainable Business ◦ Warwick Business School The debate on climate change is moving from a phase of scientific analysis to policy and business action. So what will the future low carbon society look like? And what challenges and opportunities will it bring. In this presentation, Professor Sentance will discuss this issue from two angles. First, what structural changes need to take place in our economy and society to move to a much lower emissions path? In particular, he will highlight the role of two major challenges – restructuring the energy and transport sectors, and making radical improvements in energy efficiency in households and firms. Second, what policies will be implemented to move us in this direction? In particular, what is the role for carbon pricing, green taxes and incentives for low carbon technologies. Professor Sentance will conclude his talk with a brief discussion of the key business opportunities implied by the transition to a Low Carbon Society.
